In it's strictest since Authoritarianism is a totalitarian system that devoids itself of any governing rule or checks and balances and it becomes a law unto itself. It stands as the final authority, and recognizes it's own right to rule by power. This authoritarianism was clearly seen in what came to be known as Ceasarism. The Ceasar was the supreme Pontifix Maximus. remember that he was the head religious and governmental ruler. seen as a deity, and even demanded worship. 1. Pagan Legalism. So the Jewish Pharasees and Saducees, would teach the Law of God, as we saw before in a similar manner to that of the Local Paste/Elder today. However they wanted to be careful not to come close to violating the commandments of God and so they added walls around the Law if you will, in order to protect you and them from violating the Law of God. For example: God said that you shall do not work on the Sabbath. Lev 23:3 so, for the Laws sake, they would interpret that to mean, you cannot do any labor at all in any shape. Then they defined what labor meant. You could walk only a certain number of steps on the Sabbath, you could only walk a donkey so far, and it could not work. You could not help anyone with labor, or help rescue anyone from danger. Beloved this is pietistic legalism, holding to the traditions of men instead of the Commandments of God. The Legalist of that day and this say's "But my favorite preacher says this." I don't like what your doing because it offends and so your in sin.Because I disagree with you, I can judge you and even disregard the Scriptures commands. I can publically chastise you for, especially if your a pastor.
