The first blessing of the New Covenant is that God writes upon our minds and hearts the same laws that He wrote upon stone in the Old Covenant. Law and Gospel are the dearest of friends. But how are we to understand the role of the Old Testament Law in the life of a New Testament believer? Over the course of this morning's and next Lord's Day's message we seek to wrestle with this difficult question. This morning we begin by setting forth three Biblical principles to help guide our thinking: 1. The Old Mosaic Covenant has been completely abolished and replaced by the New Covenant. 2. The Old Testament Law is perpetual in its entirety. 3. The application of the Old Testament Law is different under the New Covenant, and we are dependent upon the New Testament Scriptures to show us how.
