As the tide turns against believers in this nation, it is good to remind ourselves of what is expected of us and what has been provided for us, so we may be prepared if and when we come under intensified persecution for Him. This is a study of the need to gird up the loins of our minds in preparation for suffering for our Lord. The lesson is that we are to be prepared in our minds for suffering for Him and our confidence is not to be in the things of this life but in the sure things of our hope in all His promises to us when He comes back for His body the church. Peter calls us to holiness in all our behavior. While we are citizens of heaven, we are ambassadors for Jesus Christ here on earth. Since the world hated our Lord and put Him to death, it will also hate us, as we are conformed to Him. Here we look at the first two of four commands as to how we are to live in a fallen world. We are to honor all men and we are to love the brethren. We are also to fear God, that is we are to honor Him and give Him His rightful place. This is not the fear of punishment because our Lord took that upon Himself. It is simply the reverence and worship given that is due Him as our great Creator and sovereign God Who has saved us eternally. Finally we are once again called on to honor the king. Here we look again at the believer’s responsibility to be submissive to the government God has placed over us.
