Renwick was 'the last, and in various respects the most illustrious of the Scottish martyrs of the 17th century. Hated and persecuted in his own day, by the men in authority in Church and State -- calumniated and reproached by ministers and others, who professed evangelical sentiments and affected piety -- and his principles generally misrepresented and condemned even to our own day, -- yet there is abundant evidence to show that the Master whom he faithfully served, and for whose cause he willingly surrendered his life, singularly owned and honored him.'
This book is a historical sketch of Renwick's life, labors and martyrdom; as well as a vindication of his character and testimony.
Renwick's life is most instructive in two major areas:
'First -- in showing that, according to the national vows, and the reformation attainments, the whole civil polity of the nation should be conformed to the Scriptures, -- and secondly, in explaining and asserting the positive duty of distinct separation from whatever systems in the state or the church that are opposed to entire allegiance to Messiah, the Prince.'
Most encouraging and God-glorifying history!
