As we conclude our series through Ephesians this week, we are reminded by Paul that everything and everyone caught up in the gospel of Christ is contested. There are spiritual forces powerfully at work in accordance with the schemes of the devil. This is not reason to fear. Yet, neither can we afford to be complacent. Instead, we are commanded to be strong in the Lord, to put on the whole armour of God, to stand firm against the opposition and to be alert in prayer. Just as God gives the church good gifts to equip the saints for our work of ministry, he also equips us with all that is needed for the contest. It is in the strength of his might that we are to be strong. It is in his whole armour that we are to stand. And it is with his Word and in his Spirit that we are to pray. Throughout the ages God's people have been urged repeatedly to "be strong and courageous." Here is a much needed clarion call for the church today to stand firm with strong resolve in its Lord and Saviour.
