Many of us have been accused of eating too much, things said about us because of our physical appetite. But, there is a right way to be greedy. In verse 9 the word "longing" means to have appetite or to seek greedily. The word greedy means to have a strong desire for food or drink. We need to have a strong desire, a greedy desire to have more of God's word. Physical food we can eat till we are sick and don't want anymore; but God's word, the more you eat of it the more of it you want. Some of our problems can be traced back to us not being greedy for God's word. How is your appetite for God's word? God can satisfy (fill to satisfaction) our longing for His word. If we leave God's word still hungry then it means we didn't have a big appetite for His word. We want to be greedy, we need to be greedy in this case and not be on some sort of spiritual diet.
