Every time you see a snake slither on the ground you are reminded of the fall and God's curse upon Satan, sin, and man!
Satan used the serpent to fulfill his demonic deed. God curses both. As we approach the curses in Gen. 3:14-19, we see the reason things are as they are. It all began with sin and man's sin against God. His nature was plunged into ruin, and his relationship with God was destroyed. He became subject to another, Satan, and to His own fallen will; but threw off, if it could be, the reign of God, in a certain measure. But we see here in these curses that though man thought he may have gained some autonomy from God – perhaps even Satan thought he had struck a blow to God's sovereign rule and congratulated himself – we see, on the contrary, that God is still sovereign, God still reigns. God renders judgment; he renders the curses. |
