Israel must face the mighty foe of 120,000 Midianites with only 300 men, making it clear that the victory is only to be found in God and to his glory. Similarly, a believer must be emptied of self and face trials trusting only in God's strength. We read that Gideon hears and obeys God's command by going down into the enemy camp where God confirms to Gideon that the victory is indeed his. Similarly, in a believer's life, the Word is confirmed as he walks in obedience to it.
