People often think of this world's pain and God's failure to do anything about it. This passage tells us of God's pain – God's distress at the failure of those who have no regard for the splendour of His majesty. The prophet Isaiah expresses the bitter disappointment of God's heart in what he calls a love song that he sings for his beloved.
It's a strange love song. It is a love song declaring how much his beloved loved his vineyard - how much care and labour he put into preparing His vineyard. But then when He looked for grapes there were only wild and bitter grapes. If Israel failed and was judged, what hope is there for us? How can we avoid receiving the grace of God in vain and grieving His Holy Spirit?
