Many people today—even Christians—are confused about the nature of the Jewish faith as it is revealed in the Old Testament. In one sense, that is not hard to understand. The Jews are called the chosen people of God in the Old Testament. He pledged Himself to be their God and called them to be His people. In addition, God did give to the Jewish people in the Old Testament many regulations about what to eat, what to wear, and about special religious festivals and rituals that they were to observe. But if that is all that you focus on then you are in danger of missing the whole point of the Old Testament. But…if you focus on the status of the Jews as God's chosen people and all the external requirements that He placed on them in the Old Testament, you would have been right at home among most Jews early in the 1st century. Because that is precisely the way that most them thought about their religion, as well. We see this in the way the New Testament ushers in the rule and reign of Jesus Christ.
