Twenty five years after that initial promise and laughter is now heard in the camp, Abraham and Sarah in their old age now have a son. Not everybody was laughing with them. An earlier sin was still there and Sarah wanted nothing to do with them. Perhaps a little more peace then would have made a difference down the road today. At any rate Hagar and Ishmael were run out and when they ran out of water shortsightedness kicked in for Hagar as well. In the third act of the chapter we see Abimelech being a little short sighted as well. He could only see the potential threat of Abraham and now he has to come and make peace with Abraham.
