Today’s message is from the epistle to the Hebrews, is titled “Is God Punishing Me?” and is given by our guest, Dr. John Street, the Chair of the graduate program in Biblical Counseling (MABC) at The Master's University.
In Hebrews 12:7-11, the author speaks of God’s discipline of us as true children and compares it with the discipline of our earthly fathers. The author concludes that, while discipline can be unpleasant, it is necessary, and is an indication of our legitimacy as children of God.
Dr. Street relates a real-life story to help us see that this means: We should view hardship as God’s discipline; When God bring hardship into our lives, He is acting as a loving father; God’s discipline is corrective, not punitive, to bring about greater holiness in our lives; God’s affliction, hardships, and difficulties is God’s training in righteousness, as evidenced by our hearts’ peace and our trust in Him.
