There are two ways to view the downfall of Babylon. 1) contemplate and weep over what is lost. 2) Rejoice and contemplate the goodness of God.
There are three camps of people in the former. 1) The kings- they weep for lost power. 2) The merchants - they weep for lost wealth. 3) The sailors - they weep for lost importance.
Though different in that which they have lost, they are the same in weeping from selfishness.
As Christians we see the goodness of God in three ways. 1)We see it in the destruction of Christ's competition for glory.
2) We see it in the good gifts that He gives.
3) We see it in Christ himself.
As you consider your losses in this life, do you think about the pleasures and treasures that might have been, or do you think about the goodness of God.
