Counsel is always given from a particular point of view, but the counsel of the wise reflects a God centered world view. In the book of Ecclesiastes, Solomon contrasts a man centered view of life “under the sun” with a godly wisdom informed by the eternal redeemer Jesus Christ. The way of the wise may be characterized by a pursuit of straight paths, but it is only by Christ and through Him that the crooked paths may be made straight.
A contrast is made between the wisdom of righteousness and the wisdom of the world. This contrast is highlighted in the common life situations of public gathering, conversation, rebuking, anger and death. God calls His people to adopt a world view in keeping with His own.
