These verses should cause believers to know that in our present state we are not suited for the immediated presence of God or Christ. Daniel, even after being comforted by the Lord, is awestruck with astonishment and fear when he hears the voice of the Son of God. Three stages of his recovery are given in the passage: 1) He is dumbstruck; 2) He is enabled finally to speak; and 3) He is strengthened to receive revelation. In these verses the curtain is lifted so that we can get a glimpse of the spiritual world in a form that does not overwhen us, as it did Daniel. Belivers will be suited for the immediate presence of God only by a work of God in our souls at the moment of death.
