~Becoming The Church Next Door~ Give Peace a Chance Matthew 5:9
One researcher has noted recently that in the past 4,000 years there has been less than 300 years of world peace.
In the middle of such continued strife, God calls His people to be “Peacemakers”.
As we consider this verse, we will note three kinds of people: Peace-Breakers “Now I urge you brethren, keep your eyes on those who cause dissensions and hindrances contrary to the teaching which you learned and turn away from them.” (Romans 16:17 NAS)
You can be a peace-breaker by the way you use your tongue. (James 3:3-10)
Peace-Fakers They prefer peace over truth.
Peace-Makers Peace with the Savior. “Peace with God.” (Romans 5:1, 11) Peace with Self. “Peace of God passes all understanding. (Philippians 4:7) Peace with Society. (II Corinthians 5:18-20)
What is the reward of the Peacemaker? “They shall be called sons of God.” A peacemaker looks like his father.
Application: Of the three kinds of people, which one best describes you? Do you value the unity of the body of Christ? Do you defend the purity and peace of the body of Christ? Are you the kind of friend that would confront someone if you saw that their life was headed in a direction away from God? When was the last time you shared your faith with someone?
