25 But now I go unto Jerusalem to minister unto the saints. 26 For it hath pleased them of Macedonia and Achaia to make a certain contribution for the poor saints which are at Jerusalem (KJV).
Now the apostle tells the saints at Rome his purpose to visit them. This journey is also mentioned in Acts 19:21, "Paul purposed in the spirit, when he had passed through Macedonia and Achaia, to go to Jerusalem, saying after I have been there, I must also see Rome." He had heard that they were already in a very healthy spiritual condition. Israel was no longer the only nation with the gospel but the gospel was for all nations and peoples.
However, now he was going up to Jerusalem to carry an offering from the saints of Macedonia and Achaia to the needy believers of Judea. The fact that he went to Jerusalem is also recorded in in the book of Acts describing his defence before Felix (Acts 24:17), "Now after many years, I came to bring alms to my nation and offerings."
