The writer of Hebrews, though hinting at Christ's role as high priest, for the first calls Christ high priest. But in order for Him to be our high priest He had to become one us and suffer the temptation of suffering as we did. But because He did his shows us mercy as one who has suffered and is faithful to be our high priest when we certainly don't deserve it. He offered Himself as both a expiation and propitiation on our behalf in oirder that the Father's wrath might be turned back. So, if this is true then who better to "help" us when we suffer then the one who identified with and suffered for us.
