Are you being spiritually lazy? No one wants to be known as lazy and many people don’t think they are lazy because they are always busy but we can be totally busy and still be very lazy; there is more specificity than just the overall sense here. We justify laziness in one area by activity in another, but it is no excuse, and it always comes back home to bite you. Super productivity in your work life, for instance, does not excuse you from under activity in your home life, married life, etc.
An entitlement mentality is deceiving many into spiritual deadness. Too many people are feeling entitled because of potential. They never deny themselves and become mature. They never submit to the refiners fire (Malachi 3:2-3). God deals with a hardened heart through His refining fire. He sends hardships and tests to show us our hearts, and then we will repent, and be refined, or we will refuse, and be in rebellion.
We become complacent, then careless, then calloused, and cold, and finally calcified. Gehazi could have denied his desires and grown in the grace of God, but he had the wrong set of values. That is why people take illegitimate opportunities.
