Now that the work has begun Nehemiah encounters opposition almost immediately. But a godly work being met by opposition should never take us by surprise. The fact is, God uses adversity to shape, challenge and test His children.
John Calvin put it this way: 'Whomever the Lord has adopted and deemed worthy of His fellowship ought to prepare themselves for a hard, toilsome, and unquiet life, crammed with very many and various kinds of evil. It is the Heavenly Father's will thus to exercise them so as to put His own children to a definite test. Beginning with Christ, His first-born, He follows this plan with all His children.'
We serve a God who is certainly powerful enough to remove all obstacles in our lives and make our way plain, but He chooses not to. His reason -- to make you more like His Son. Embrace adversity. See your God in it. Allow opposition to send you to your knees in utter dependence upon God and having risen, strengthen your resolve to continue in the work He has given you.
