In his attempt to make Christianity a religion all people could believe in Schleiermacher stripped the Christian faith of it's identity. He tried placating the Enlightenment philosophers by denying the supernatural claims of Scripture as myths intended to teach moral lessons. He also placated the romanticists by saying Christianity is not a religion full of rigid doctrines and rules, but a purely emotional experience where you must follow the example of Jesus who was a merely a man who achieved a superior God-consciousness.
