Introduction * Genesis 12:1-3 * Abraham is old. Where are the promises? - He owns none if the promised land - He has only one son - Who has been blessed through him?
1. The first promise: "to a land that I will show you" * 'Sarah died' * Hebrews 11:15 * Abraham shows he believe the promises of God * Abraham has to own the land where he buries Sarah. He believes that one day the land will be owned by his descendants * Abraham pays for the field. He knows a gift of the cave isn't enough. * The second promise is being fulfilled - Abraham, Isaac, Rebecca, Leah and Jacob are all buried there
2. The third promise - "in you, all the families of the earth shall be blessed" * God's plan is fulfilled through Abraham * Hebrews 11:9-10
3. Will you die happy? * You will die * You will die unfulfilled if desire is achievements in self * You will only die happy if you trust in the Saviour who came through Abraham's line * Hebrews 11:9-10, 13-16 - Abraham realised the promises of God were for him, but not about him. - Nation and land were not important or where his hope was - He trusted in the Saviour to come
