We live in an age in which people seek to find or even define the essence and reality of who they are. Behind this search is often an assumption that a person can be not only whatever he or she wants to be, but that he or she can be whoever is desired. That is, the matter is not one of vocation such as becoming a doctor or plumber, but one of who and what we are at the most fundamental level. But the Scriptures reveal to us who we are. We read, "…God created man in His own image; in the image of God He created him; male and female He created them." (Genesis 1:27) Of course, the original glory of mankind was marred in the Fall and the race descended into darkness, but when the Savior came, He not only reconciled us to Himself, He opened the way for His people to be adopted and become join-heirs with Him in the inheritance. What and how vast is that inheritance? As we will see soon in chapter 8, "He who did not spare His own Son, but delivered Him up for us all, how shall He not with Him also freely give us all things?" – Pastor Schlegel
