Philip means warrior or lover of horses. He was distinguished as one of the first seven deacons (Acts 6:5). He was one of the scattered due to persecution (Acts 8:1,5). He was one who preached Christ (Acts 8:4-6). He was called to the Ethiopian (Acts 8:26). That is where our text finds him. Again, we are told "he preached unto him Jesus," (Acts 8:35) who requested baptism and confessed Christ (Acts 8:36-37).
