In I Corinthians 10:11 we read that the record of the experiences of the tribes of Israel in the wilderness are for our instruction and benefit. "Now all these things happened unto them for ensamples: and they are written for our admonition, upon whom the ends of the world are come." But which lessons are we to learn? Much of the record is a record of rebellion, sin, failure and judgment. These negative examples are indeed good to pay heed to, but there is more that can be learned from their experiences. In our text today, the example of the people before the mountain of God is used as a contrast to the mountain of God for us. Theirs was a touchable and terrifying mountain. Our mountain is a heavenly and spiritual mountain. And where there was thundering, lightning and a weak mediator at mount Sinai, there is now at the spiritual Zion a mediator, Jesus Christ. – Pastor Schlegel
