Gambling has become extremely popular in our culture. A generation is now growing up believing gambling is just another entertainment option. For the believer, is gambling a matter of Christian liberty, or is it a sin?
To answer the question, this lesson looks at four areas. First, gambling is the original get-rich-quick scheme. God has ordained that our lives are to be built line by line, precept by precept, one step at a time. It takes time to grow: our Christian faith, building a business, or increasing a savings account. Second, gambling is poor stewardship. Whether poor or rich, we are to steward every penny the Lord has given us properly. Third, gambling is a form of laziness. It violates God's ordained means of increase: working with our hands. Finally, gambling can be an expression of the love of money and discontentment.
Considering these biblical principles and the attendant dangers of gambling, the Christian ought to conclude that, at best, gambling is foolishness and, at worst, is a violation of God's commandments.
