Tonight, we turn to the last book in the Bible. In the book of Revelation, the people of God are facing persecution and are being encouraged to remain faithful unto the end. The most common name for Jesus in the book of Revelation is “The Lamb.” We can catch a glimpse of the sacrificial Lamb in the garden of Eden, on Mount Moriah during the sacrifice of Isaac, the night of Passover in Egypt, the sacrificial system at the tabernacle and temple and the cross of Calvary. In Revelation, the sacrificial and suffering Lamb overcomes. God’s people are called to overcome. This book would have been and incredible encouragement for believers who were suffering great persecution. As we see things changing around us each day, I hope this truth stirs you to live a faithful and true life here on earth in eagerness for the world to come. Solomon’s proverb is true, “But the path of the just is as the shining light, that shineth more and more unto the perfect day “(Proverbs 4:18). Certainly, there is a brighter day coming. As some have sung, there is an unclouded day. The Bible ends with an invitation for all to come to Jesus Christ. When your story connects with God’s Story it leads to a greater story. For those saved by God’s grace through the atoning work of Jesus Christ on the cross, this life ends better than ever. However, those who die without Jesus will experience wrath forever more. I would like for us to consider Revelation 21 with the title God’s Story: The Consummation. We will consider the following 1) The Celestial City 2) The Comfort of the Celestial City 3) The Citizens of the Celestial City.
