'Change them?....into what?' So asked Dr. Jay Adams as he addressed the faculty and student body of the University Psychiatric Clinic in Vienna, Austria in 1977.
Dr. Adams' point was basically this: 'All of you who practice secular counseling in one form or another the world over -- what standard do you use to measure and help those you counsel? With over 250 different counseling methodologies in practice today, what do you use as an example of 'normal'? Yourselves! I sure hope not.'
The Christian has the only model for normal human behavior. More than that, we have been given the example of humanity perfected in Jesus Christ. He alone is our standard. We do not vacillate between 250 differing opinions of what normal ought to be. We have only one.
Upon that we should all agree and emulate ourselves after (Eph. 5:1). In Christ is there the only hope for change in a single direction that both honors God and allows us to live according to the design of our Creator.
The above address by Dr. Jay Adams has been put into a written article that I will make available to you all tonight as we continue our discussion of biblical change. May the Lord bless you this day as you seek Him.
