It is the little things that desensitize us to God. The real indicator of whether or not your heart is in tune with God is whether or not you hunger for God's word as much as your daily food. I love to eat and when I travel overseas I eat constantly. Do you know what? When I don't eat, I am aware of it. Are you aware of when you don't eat from God's Word? Do you have a gnawing hunger in your spirit? If not, there is something that is poisoning you and distracting you.  That is what God was testing Abraham for. God said, "Do you trust that I will give you the grace to leave behind your family, your city and your people and go to a new land that I will show you."  The writer of the book of Hebrews said about Abraham in 11:10  "he waited for the city which has foundations, whose builder and maker is God." (NKJV)  Do you know what that means? Though Abraham failed this first test, Abraham saw that God offered him something greater than all the wealth and prestige of the city of Ur could offer him.  Have you learned to wait on God? Have you learned to wait on Him for His sufficiency to give you the strength to systematically separate yourself from all the entanglements of this world that draw you away from Christ?  The first step you must take is to commit to spend time in the Word of God every day. Don't just blankly read the Bible just to get it over with so you can check off that section on your reading chart. Pray Psalm 119:18:  Open my eyes, that I may see Wondrous things from Your law. (NKJV)  Ask God—the Author, the greatest Teacher in the Universe is present with you. The Spirit of God wants to open your eyes to understand His Word. Then after you read it, and
