Several weeks ago we started to look into this section in John 10. It is the the feast of Dedication, (feast of lights – Hanukkah) where there was a national celebration of the Maccabeus's cleansing of the temple. It was a feast to remember the gift of meeting with God again, and God Himself came to teach them. He teaches them using two word pictures. The first was that He is the door. This was to emphasis that He is the only way. We might want to think that there are many ways, but there is only one. It also shows us that there is a line. Most people want to think they are in the door, but they don't follow Christ. The warning is that there will be many outside the door, hanging out near it. (10 virgins Matt. 25:1-13 & Matt. 7:21-23 21 "Not everyone who says to Me, ‘Lord, Lord,' shall enter the kingdom of heaven, but he who does the will of My Father in heaven. 22 "Many will say to Me in that day, ‘Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in Your name, cast out demons in Your name, and done many wonders in Your name?' 23 "And then I will declare to them,`I never knew you; depart from Me, you who practice lawlessness!') Lastly, we tend to think even as Christians that we are always being kept back from a fun life, yet Christ tells us that inside there is an abundant life. Let’s look at the lesson of the Good Shepard and His sheep today.
