On Wednesday night we looked at Phil. 2:14 “Do all things without complaining and disputing.” This is a verse that of course hits all of us at times. As we looked at this verse, I was challenged in my heart. Not because of what the verse commanded, but for the reason why the Bible can say this. All complaining is at it's heart a lack of trust in the sufficiency of God. We have either forgotten or ignored that He is in control of our life and that He is leading us. We have also perhaps forgotten how involved He is in our lives. Our salvation is all about God reaching down to save us as unworthy sinners. We were chosen in eternity past by God the Father. God the Son agreed to pay for our Sin and God the Holy Spirit agreed to apply that salvation to each and every child of God. We are now being kept by the Spirit in us (Rom. 8), prayed for by Christ at God's right hand, and kept by a loving Father who delights to give good things to us. We have mighty Advocates. This passage in John 17 is given by Jesus to the Father in front of the Disciples so that they may have His joy fulfilled in them. This joy is dependent on understanding what God has done for us. It becomes a source of strength and encouragement that we can rest in. Let's look at these verses.
