When Boaz came out from Bethlehem, to check on the harvest in his fields, Yahweh sovereignly brought Boaz into contact with Ruth. Boaz noticed her, asked about the young woman and then received a full report that included her nationality, widowhood, blood relation and character as a worker. Boaz was impressed and would seek to bless her and Naomi.
