Christian life is a paradox. By the word "paradox" I mean something that is contrary to what we normally expect. For example, here in our passage James says, "The brother in humble [low] circumstances ought to take pride in his high position. But the one who is rich should take pride in his low position." Literally, what James is saying:
1. Let the poor brother rejoice in his high position 2. Let the rich brother rejoice in his low position
