Death is final on this side of heaven but it is not the final destiny for believers. He or she goes immediately to Christ and will be with Him until He returns. When He returns, we will return with Him and in that event, we will received our glorified body. Christ is raised (firstfruit) and then He returns – those "who belong to Christ" will be raised. etc.
Why the resurrection? 1. Creation is restored.
2. Curse is reversed and blessing secured.
3. Death is vanquished (vv. 53-55). I
4. God's original and final purpose is established.
THEREFORE… • Rightly consider your body. • This gives us hope in the midst of weariness and struggle. • This gives us godly courage to face death. • This gives us encouragement to labor for the returning Lord (v. 58).
