There are only two kinds of people who will exist forever: the damned, and the forgiven. There are no unforgiven saved people.
This is the importance of the request Jesus provides for us in his model prayer. More important even than our daily bread is the forgiving of our sin debt before God. And that is what Jesus himself would accomplish on the cross for all who believe on him.
Such beautiful and generous forgiveness comes, Jesus reminds us, with an expectation as well. Those who have been forgiven much, love much; and those who have been forgiven by God, are willing to readily forgive others.
Even as we turn to God and ask for forgiveness for our failures, we are reminded of how we must treat everyone around us, how we ought to love and forbear with everyone around us.
