This morning, we want to walk with Jesus down to the riverside of the Jordan. It is there in the river that Jesus comes to John the Baptist to be baptized. The result of this time in Jesus life is the glorious affirmation of the Father’s pleasure. The Father declares that Jesus is God’s Son, and He is well pleased in Him. The righteous Father delighted in the righteous Son and the righteous Holy Spirit like a dove rested upon Jesus. The height of joy in the obedience of the Son is something that should not be overlooked. There is so much joy and pleasure in walking with God. This morning, the title of the message will be “Well Pleased.” I can think of no better way of celebrating Father’s Day today than to see two father’s seeking to honor their heavenly Father. I pray that the Father will look down from heaven and see our obedience to and love for Him and each other and be “well-pleased.” Let’s stand by the banks of the Jordan River in our minds and contemplate this beautiful moment in Jesus’ life as He is baptized by John. Let us consider 1) The Father’s Pleasure in the Proper Earthly Authority 2) in the Proper Picture 3) in the Son’s Submission to the Father’s will.
