The Lord God is not a God in whom unholy fury dwells. His offers of mercy, even to those who have made themselves his enemies, are wonderful. So here, in Isaiah 27, where he speaks to those who face his righteous judgments, and holds out to them a refuge instead.
So, first, the power offered is that of God himself, the strength of the Lord as a place of security and certainty. The purpose behind the offer is declared: the Lord intends to provide peace between himself and those who receive his offer. As if to underline the whole, there is a promise made: the one who lays hold on God's strength for mercy will indeed find peace.
And where is God's strength revealed for peace? In the salvation accomplished through the death of the Lord Jesus Christ.
