1st Thessalonians 2: 13 – “For this reason we also thank God without ceasing, because when you received the word of God which you heard from us, you welcomed it not as the word of men, but as it is in truth, the word of God, which also effectively works in you who believe.” Notice in relation to this verse that the Word of God was something which the Thessalonians received and welcomed. They received it as God’s word to them. God’s word was speaking to them. They were not speaking to it, picking and choosing what they would believe, but receiving it because the authority of God Himself was in the very words that they were hearing. Even so, ought you and I to receive and welcome the word of God, and to recognize God’s loving, yet authoritative voice, speaking to us in the written word of God.
