In 1 Chronicles 5 we continue our journey through the tribes of Israel by looking at the tribes on the east side of the Jordan: Reuben, Gad, and the half-tribe of Manasseh.
Chapters 2-4 told us about Judah – with the end of chapter 4 reminding us of Simeon.
Now we turn east to the tribes on the “far side” of the Jordan. What is more, when the Chronicler writes, these tribes had been absent from Israel for over 300 years. They were on the far side of the Jordan – they are also on the far side of history.
Reuben, Gad and Manasseh were deported by Tiglath-Pileser over 300 years ago – and they haven't been heard from since.
