9Â But ye are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, an holy nation, a peculiar people; that ye should shew forth the praises of him who hath called you out of darkness into his marvellous light; 10Â Which in time past were not a people, but are now the people of God: which had not obtained mercy, but now have obtained mercy.
We are: 1. A Chosen Generation 2. A Royal Priesthood 3. A Holy Nation 4. A Peculiar People
This phraseology of a peculiar people, meaning God’s own possession. It’s rooted in the Old Testament passages.
Isaiah 43:21 - This people have I formed for myself; they shall shew forth my praise.
Malachi 3:17 – And they shall be mine, saith the LORD of hosts, in that day when I make up my jewels; and I will spare them, as a man spareth his own son that serveth him.
1 Corinthians 6:19-20 - What? know ye not that your body is the temple of the Holy Ghost which is in you, which ye have of God, and ye are not your own? 20Â For ye are bought with a price: therefore glorify God in your body, and in your spirit, which are God's.
