After declaring the faith of the Israelites by crossing through the Red Sea, the writer of Hebrews declares their testimony of faith the walls of Jericho falling down by marching around them for seven days. God had clearly been training the Israelites through their forty years in the wilderness so we do not know how many had saving faith. We do know that they trusted in God. They had hope of victory. That they had a good testimony to the nations around them. The marching around Jericho clearly proved that they believed that the invisible controlled the visible. Those things are all evidences of faith, but we have good reason to believe that while they had faith and did it by faith, they did not have the hope of a better country, a heavenly one. They were looking toward an earthly reward, so while they had faith, it doesn't mean that they will receive the reward of heaven. They may have only received the reward that they were pursuing.
