Did you know that you can have knowledge but lack wisdom altogether? Wisdom is the application of knowledge. So you can have knowledge and never know how to apply it. That takes wisdom. Here, Paul has told these Corinthian Christians about the hidden wisdom of God in the Gospel of Jesus Christ and Him crucified. This church is prideful, divisive, has a party spirit, and they are using worldly wisdom. Paul commands them to abandon such ungodly wisdom. So we consider 1) If you will be truly wise, and 2) If you must boast, boast wisely. As always, I claim no originality but will quote, refer, cite, etc. from a variety of sources including Gardner, Barrett, Wilson, Kistemaker, and many others.
