Lydia stands as a wonderful example of the Lord working in the heart to bring a person to faith.
We begin, however, by noticing the reality of divine guidance. The apostles are clearly led by the Lord to the place where Lydia can be found, with some doors opened and other doors closed as they seek to preach the gospel. If we seek the Lord's will and look to Him in all sincerity, He will direct our pathway through life.
As the apostles minister beside the river outside Philippi, the unseen yet irresistible power of the Holy Spirit works to open Lydia's heart, opening the windows of the soul to the light and truth of the gospel.
As we survey the conversion of Lydia, we see the importance of true heart religion, the way in which she 'attended unto the things which were spoken' and Lydia's sincerity in repenting of her sin and committing herself to Christ.
