Lesson 5 The Victorious Rescuer. Luke 23:33-56;Luke 24:1-6 The birth and death of Jesus had been foretold for thousands of years. The world was looking for a Messiah. Even though scripture was filled with prophecy about him, most of the world did not recognize him. They wanted a powerful figure. Instead, they saw a man who told them how to live before God. He offered eternal life. The world chose to kill him because of the message he preached. We know that it was god's plan for Jesus to die for our sins. Because of his love for us, God sent Jesus to die for us.Jesus took the sins of the whole world to the cross and paid for them there. What does this mean to you today? You don't have to die for your own sins. Jesus did that for you. He suffered a horrible death because of sin, but that wasn't the end for Jesus. The empty tomb is as real as the cross. Jesus was buried in that tomb, but it also was there that he rose from the dead. His resurrection is important to us because Jesus said that we shall be like him. Because he defeated sin and death, we can, too. For those who know Jesus as their savior, a home is waiting in heaven.
