Pastor Wood answers questions asked by some of the students and staff at Wears Valley Ranch.
* How to show love honor and respect to family members who are not Christians or who claim to be Christians and live in habitual sin? - If they claim to be a Christian we are cut them off (not even to eat with them). The goal of doing what God says is to restore those. If they are not claiming to be Christians, then we are to reach out in love (we can eat with non-Christians). Honor means that we live in such a way that people will believe the best about our parents. We are to live a life that is pleasing to God and honors our parents whether alive or deceased.
* If God does not like divorce, then why does God allow laws surrounding it? Matthew 19:1-9 - The answers to the important questions of life are found in God’s word. The physical union of marriage is a picture of a greater picture. The law is not given to save, instead, it is to point us to the Savior. The law is designed to help restrain evil and to give consequences. If we want to marry a wonderful Godly person, then we need to be a wonderful Godly person. We need to do God’s will, no matter what He tells us.
* Is there any place in God’s word for singleness? Yes, Jesus never married. Matthew 19:11-12 - Singleness is the exception if God is calling us to be single.
