There is an ongoing battle to obscure the truth and in these last days we contend with the lies of those who John calls 'antichrists'. What is our defence against such lies? Do we need to 'defend' God so that the truth will win? Does believing and proclaiming that Jesus Christ is the (only) way, truth and life make us unreasonable 'fundamentalists'? Should we remain silent in a society that baulks at the notion of truth?
Truth is more than a philosophical argument for the tea room - faith in the saving work of Christ is a life or death matter. God is the God of Truth. If His truth is shown in His Son, then Christ's death, resurrection and ascension has opened up the way to our loving Father, bringing eternal life, for His Glory!
There is nothing true of us that makes us deserve to know the Truth, He came to us whilst we chose to believe the lie and even as believers there are times that our faith seems to wobble. We may be shaken by the lies we prefer to believe, those that seem to be reasonable, or by circumstances that seem to disprove our faith. Like Peter, we may deny knowing Christ, or remain silent when we should have spoken. Whilst the stakes are high the truthful ever loving action of God is unshakable and stronger that any lie. Truth abides in us and He won't leave us, "... you have been anointed by the Holy One". Our Father demonstrates his compelling love to us through His Son, we keep our eyes on this Holy One, and have confidence to abide in Him.
