Paul proves he was no innovator when he quotes from the prophet Isaiah to establish his doctrine about the seed of Abraham. The Jews for the most part had denied that Jesus was the Messiah and they reasoned that the majority's rejection of Him proved He wasn't the expected One. Paul shows that God's promises were not overturned by the majority's unbelief since God had often spoken about the remnant being saved. Thus, although Abraham's natural seed would be like the sand on the sea shore, God never intended to save them all and therefore their argument that Christ couldn't be the Messiah had no basis in sound theology.
