Three Things I. What God did • God humbled, tested and disciplined them (vv. 2, 3, 5, 16) — through the wilderness/difficulties God let them be hungry (v. 3), exposed them to the terrifying elements (v. 15) [long time in wilderness as discipline] • God took care of them (vv. 3, 4) II. What God will do (vv. 7-10) III. What concerns God (vv. 14, 17-18) • When things go well (vv. 12-13) … we don't do so well. God is concerned about our self-sufficiency, giving credit to self, presuming we created our own abilities, etc. • God warns them not to forget Him (vv. 11, 14, 19) — How? Disobedience, turning to other gods, not depending upon God, not blessing God, etc. • One, "your heart be lifted up" (v. 14) — so common, natural & easy. Two, "My power" got me this (v. 17). • REMEDY (v. 18): remember God, understand who gave it to you (and can take it away) |
