It is because of the atoning value of the cross that we are enabled to live in God and he in us, and so, abide in love. Without the justification and purification of the cross we have to reduce the brilliant glory of His humanity down to a level that does not mock and judge us. We would have to bring Him alongside us as a mate and a fellow traveler, or make him one of 'many great pure souls who have so attained spiritual enlightenment that they end up becoming one of many incarnations or emanations of the Great Christ Spirit' rather than unique incarnate Son of the Father - the Lord of glory that He was. Only the atoning cross enables us to be stood upon our feet before the splendor of His glory – humbled beyond belief, but wonderfully forgiven and at home in His presence. Only the atoning cross can enable us to love one another with the love that comes from the Father and the Son thus confirming the stunning truth that the unseen God himself – Father, Son and Spirit - has come to live in redeemed sinners and taken them home to Himself that they might live through Him.
