Rev. John W. Nevin, Dear Sir— The undersigned having listened with feelings of intense interest to the very excellent sermon delivered by you this morning in the First Presbyterian Church, Pittsburgh, take the liberty of soliciting from you a copy of the same for publication. We are persuaded that the precautionary measures, which you have this day so eloquently recommended, cannot fail, if generally known and adopted, to mitigate the horrors of the pestilence with which it has pleased the Almighty to visit our beloved country; and although we sincerely trust that our own neighborhood may be exempted from the deadly scourge, yet, it is the part of wisdom and of true courage to prepare for a calamity which the ingenuity of man has hitherto been unable to avert.
